Jump On This IG Trend Right Now—It’s Reel Easy
Words by Louise Stanway
If you aren’t familiar with Instagram reels at this point, it’s time to catch up. The short-form video option helps businesses like yours go viral. If you’re short on time and resources, reels should be an important part of your social strategy. And it doesn’t have to be hard.
Why? Instagram is rigorously competing against social giant TikTok and so, as expected, its 2022 algorithm is prioritizing short-form video. Your time is likely better spent posting 2-3 high-quality reels per week, over wasting hours sourcing and posting photos that ultimately don’t have the reach to grow your audience.
We know what you’re thinking. You don’t have access to a videographer or high-quality video assets and you certainly don’t have the time to be creating multiple reels a week, in-house. Our first suggestion to you is to seek help–hire a team of marketing specialists who live for this stuff. As marketing specialists, we are clued in on when to post, what to post and how to capitalize on trending themes and audio to grow your audience.
If you’re going to go it alone for now, here’s step one: outsource your content.
Find influencers, athletes, and community figures in your niche and work with them. This might be in the form of a contra deal or a paid partnership. Develop a system wherein you’re receiving their latest video content and are able to repost to your channel.
Aside from structured partnerships, the easiest way to repost this type of content is to follow trending hashtags in your niche and repost incredible content that’s already going viral. This type of reposted content will look different depending on what space you occupy; community tourism, non-profit etc.
Here, we’ll lead you through some examples of businesses who are using this strategy–and doing it well.
1. Patagonia
Patagonia is, above all, a technical apparel brand. But you don’t see this brand posting solely about clothing. They use reels to repost content that supports their brand ethos – to get outside, live healthily, and protect outdoor spaces. Here are some examples of reposted content they’ve shared through their channel. Their videos tend to rack up between 500k-1 million views.

2. Tourism Revelstoke We bet you’re more familiar with this one. DMOs like Revelstoke often will share reels and photo posts from travelers and residents. This is a great option if you’re working in the tourism industry and want to highlight a specific activity or location, without having to create the content yourself.

3. International Canoe Federation (ICF)
ICF is a globally operating non-profit that specializes in facilitating and promoting watersports participation. Though they only have a 54k following on Instagram, many of their reels have reached well over 100k users. They utilize user generated video content that’s either silly, shocking, or entertaining to maximize their reach and grow their audience.
