3 Ridiculously Simple Ways To Improve Your Blog Content
Words by Louise Stanway
Do you feel like you should be posting blog content regularly, but struggle to know what to write about? You’re certainly not alone. Instead of us providing you with a long list of potential blog topics, we want to encourage you to adopt a formulaic approach to creating content.
With these 3 exercises, we’re certain you’ll begin to see improved social engagement and an uptick in website visitors. Why? Because you’re actually listening to your audience (rather than talking at them); you’re breaking down that fourth wall.
1.
Try “we ask, you answer” exercises. Use Instagram’s and Facebook’s poll and quiz features to start a discussion with your audience. Ask them for their opinions on topics that provoke debate. Use social captions as an opportunity to ask your audience questions about themselves. Once you have the data, create a blog post surrounding (or including) the answers you received. Include “According To You” – or similar–in your headlines, to pique intrigue from viewers.
2.
Create evergreen content. Evergreen content is search-optimized content that is continually relevant and fresh for a long time. Use SEO tools such as Semrush to discover your audience’s top search queries and create content that answers those queries. Don’t feel inclined to only create content in your field of operation; write about things surrounding your business or non-profit organization that could be driving traffic to your website. Activities in the area, popular tourist hotspots in your town, things to know before you come, etc.
3.
Mine your FAQs. Start by asking yourself: what’s the one question I get asked more than anything? Now, use it as your starting point. Mine your social inboxes, emails and/or customer feedback cards for questions. Perhaps you have already built out an FAQs section on your website. Why not create content that answers the questions your customers are really asking you?
Bonus Tip
Use your social metrics to inform your content themes. What are the best-performing posts for the month? What is your audience engaging with most? Identify your top content and create more of it.
