Why Losing Followers Isn’t Necessarily A Bad Thing
Any time you communicate with your audience online, it can be daunting. And, trust us, we know it takes a huge amount of courage to put yourself out there and be vulnerable. But this vulnerability is so important.
Why? Because presenting a false version of yourself is exhausting. And stressful. It’s much easier–not to mention healthier–to be you.
When you are true to yourself and express your unique personality, you are far more likely to attract and connect with people who share those same values and interests. These genuine, meaningful relationships with like-minded people can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. For many of us, it’s the reason why we do what we do.
There will be others, of course, who listen to your stories and opinions and choose to disconnect completely. And that’s fine, too. Let them go. After all, they are not your audience.
Losing followers or subscribers may be a nail-biting thought, but it’s important to remember that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to building an online community that aligns with your brand’s values and purpose.
The web–specifically social media–can be a dark, scary (and sometimes toxic) place, we know. But it’s also an undeniably powerful tool for self-expression, connection, and personal growth. It provides an opportunity to build genuine relationships with your audience as well as foster trust and credibility in your community.
So, today, we have a challenge for you.
We challenge you to show up as your own authentic self on social media by sharing a vulnerable and honest post. Reflect on a personal experience, feeling, or thought that you have been hesitant to share with others.
Write a post that shares this experience, feeling, or thought in an authentic and vulnerable way. Be honest. After you post, resist the urge to delete or edit your post. Allow yourself to sit with the discomfort of vulnerability and trust that your authenticity will be appreciated.
