I can’t count how many times people say that they dislike marketing. That it seems like a sleazy, skeazy, manipulative way to generate a sale. As technology changes and we learn more about what the customer actually wants, and what I like to call Modern Marketing has evolved. So throw out your sleazy marketing thoughts and think about how marketing with honesty is the new best policy. Marketing with class, integrity and communicating to your clients in a way they will understand – a key solution to modern marketing.

So lets break it down. Why do people shy away from marketing, and what exactly is modern marketing?

Marketing encompasses so many things, from sales to strategies and so much more. The American Marketing Association defines marketing as: “the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.” In short: Marketing is about finding the value your product or services offers and communicating that value to prospective customers.

What is the best way to communicate that value?

Peter Drucker says it best:

“The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well the product or service fits him and sells itself.”

Marketing isn’t just about ads and brochures and Facebook pages. Marketing is about knowing your customer inside and out and solving a problem they are encountering with your solution.

I’ve worked with numerous companies throughout the years and many people seem to forget a very important lesson that Marie Forleo so eloquently states:

“No other person ever has, or ever will have, the unique blend of talents, strengths, and perspective that you have.”

By remembering what marketing truly is and that you are offering that unique blend, marketing with honestly should speak for itself.

So why don’t more people market with honesty?

People tend to get stuck in a rut and follow the methods that they have always used. The: if it’s not broke don’t break it. However, those tried methods are starting to get old. People have access to more information then ever before and can easily see through the smoke and mirrors facade.
