Falling for Festivals… and the top 5 things I learned.
As the fall season arrives I always love the amazing colours, the change in season and best of all everyone getting together around fires and sharing stories. When Amy Flexman, of Flexproductions, approached me in the spring to be part of a new community event to bring people together and launch the fall season I couldn’t say no. What can be better then a great festival filled with music, friends, food and entertainment!
The Revelstoke Fall Festival concluded this past weekend and we couldn’t have hoped for a better turn out. The weather was fabulous, the bands played amazing music and families and friends gathered for food and festivities.
Over the past few months we have been working on putting together all of the Revelstoke Fall Festivals’ marketing materials. They came to me with a vision of this annual event and we were able to quickly turn around a solution that worked and includes the opportunity to build on that image for next year. Creating the base foundation for online media and printed materials vision was turned into reality, and there is nothing that I love to do more.
Outside of the actual marketing strategy, I was able to be part of a great team of individuals to put together and run the event in its entirety. I can’t wait to be part of next years event and push this festival to achieve more and more every year.
After building this festival from ground up I realized I learned a fair amount. Here are my top 5 lessons:
- Your team is key. Having a reliable team that you work well with, I know I couldn’t have made it through the festival without the great group of ladies that I worked with.
- The small details matter. The finishing touches on the event people notice and appreciate.
- Pre-planning! Having everything ready for game day reduces stress. Things will get forgotten, but the more planning that is done the smoother the day will run.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff. After all the planning and paying attention to details, things are going to change last minute and on the fly decisions will be made… try to remember not to sweat the small stuff.
- Sit back and remember to have fun. Don’t forget to soak in all the hard work that you put in and enjoy the show!Have you put together a festival or large event? What was the top lesson that you learned?
